It’s inside Lotte World Mall, which is its own kind of genius. The aquarium is air-conditioned, completely stroller-accessible, and surrounded by restaurants, cafés, and shopping — which means when the visit is done, your options don’t run out. You’re not stranded in a parking lot with a tired child and no plan. You’re in a mall, and malls have food.
More practically: the paths inside are wide, the elevators work, the family restrooms exist and are clean. These things matter more than people admit.
The aquarium houses over 55,000 marine animals from more than 650 species. It’s not a small operation. But it’s also laid out in a way that doesn’t feel overwhelming — there’s a clear route through, and it takes two to three hours at a comfortable pace.

The Underwater Tunnel
The anchor of the whole visit. Walk through slowly. Look up. The sharks and rays and enormous fish moving overhead are the kind of thing you don’t quite forget. It’s the most popular spot and the best photo opportunity — expect other families to have the same idea.
The Beluga Whale
There’s something about beluga whales that stops people in their tracks. They move differently to other large marine animals — slower, more expressive, somehow more present. The viewing window is large and the whale comes close. Our daughter pressed both hands against the glass and didn’t move for a while.
The Penguin Zone
Penguins are reliable. Children love them. These ones waddle and swim and generally perform on cue, which makes the penguin zone one of the easiest parts of the aquarium to enjoy with a toddler who has opinions about standing still.
The Jellyfish Gallery
Colored lighting, drifting jellyfish, a genuinely peaceful atmosphere. It’s a nice pause in the middle of the visit — quieter, slower, good for children who need a moment to decompress between the louder exhibits.
The Touch Pool
At scheduled times, children can gently touch starfish and other marine animals under staff supervision. Check the daily schedule when you arrive — this one fills up with small children and it’s worth timing your visit around it if your child is the type who wants to participate in everything.

Jamsil is one of the best areas in Seoul for a full family day — not just because of the aquarium, but because of what surrounds it.
Lotte World Adventure (the indoor theme park) is directly connected, and while it’s better suited to slightly older children, it’s easy to add if you have kids across different ages. Seoul Sky at Lotte World Tower is worth doing once for the views. And Seokchon Lake, right next door, is one of Seoul’s most beautiful spots — cherry blossoms in late March and April, golden foliage in autumn, pleasant at any time of year for a walk after all the indoor activity.
