Namdaemun Pharmacy Shopping Guide (2026): Where Koreans Actually Buy Their Vitamins

Most Tourists Go to Olive Young. Koreans Go to Namdaemun.

There’s a version of Seoul shopping that happens on Instagram, and then there’s the version that happens in real life.

The Instagram version is Olive Young in Myeongdong: beautiful displays, cheerful packaging, viral products that you recognize from TikTok. It’s genuinely great and worth doing. But if you ask a Korean parent where they buy their children’s vitamins, or a Korean grandparent where they stock up on supplements, or really anyone who buys health products in bulk — the answer is often Namdaemun.

Not the market stalls selling bags and street food. The pharmacies.

Why Namdaemun Specifically

The reason is competition. Namdaemun has an unusually high concentration of pharmacies within a very small area, and when multiple pharmacies are selling the same products within walking distance of each other, prices tend to come down. Korean shoppers know this, which is why you’ll regularly see families buying several months’ worth of supplements in a single visit rather than picking up one bottle at a time from a neighborhood pharmacy.

It’s one of those local knowledge things that doesn’t make it onto most tourist itineraries, which is exactly why it’s worth knowing about.

Wangsol Pharmacy (왕솔약국)

If you’re visiting for the first time and don’t know where to start, Wangsol Pharmacy is the one most commonly mentioned by Korean shoppers. Wide selection, competitive pricing, and enough of a reputation that there’s often a line on weekends.

Don’t let the line put you off — it moves, and the selection inside is worth it. Use the wait to finalize your list.

What’s Worth Buying

Children’s vitamins and supplements are one of the main reasons Korean parents make the trip. Multivitamins, vitamin D, probiotics, omega-3, calcium — the selection is broader here than at a typical pharmacy, and the prices reflect the competition. If you have a specific supplement in mind, knowing the English ingredient name helps when you’re navigating the shelves or asking staff.

Adult supplements are equally well-represented. Vitamin C, magnesium, B complex, omega-3, lutein, CoQ10, joint health formulas — buying several items at once is what makes the trip worthwhile. The per-item savings are modest; the total savings on a full shopping list can be meaningful.

Pharmacy-exclusive skincare is the hidden gem section that most visitors walk past without realizing what they’re looking at. Scar care products, medical-grade moisturizers, sensitive skin creams, healing ointments — the kind of skincare that requires a pharmacist’s recommendation rather than an influencer’s. If your skin runs dry or irritated, it’s worth asking the pharmacist what they’d suggest. The answer tends to be less glamorous than an Olive Young haul and considerably more effective.

First-aid and travel essentials round out most people’s lists. Hydrocolloid acne patches, bandages, burn gel, mosquito bite relief, artificial tears, saline nasal spray. Practical things that are useful to have and noticeably cheaper here than in tourist-area pharmacies.

Is It Actually Cheaper?

In most cases, yes — particularly for well-known supplement brands and pharmacy-exclusive products. The price difference on any single item might be modest, but if you’re buying vitamins for the whole family for the next few months, it adds up.

That said, prices vary by brand and by store. If you’re buying in quantity, it’s worth a quick comparison between two or three pharmacies before committing. They’re close enough together that this takes ten minutes rather than an afternoon.

A Few Practical Notes

Go on a weekday if your schedule allows — weekends get crowded, and Wangsol’s line is longest on Saturday mornings. Bring a list rather than browsing open-endedly; the selection is large enough that having a clear sense of what you need saves time and decision fatigue.

For supplements, knowing what you’re looking for in English is helpful even if staff don’t speak it fluently — ingredient names translate. If you’re on prescription medication, pregnant, or have existing health conditions, check with the pharmacist before buying anything that might interact. This is worth saying plainly: supplements are generally low-risk, but pharmacists are there for a reason and the good ones at Namdaemun are experienced.

Getting There

Hoehyeon Station (Line 4), Exit 5 — about one minute on foot to the market entrance. Alternatively, Seoul Station is about a six-minute walk. Many people combine Namdaemun with Myeongdong for a full morning of shopping, since the two are easy to connect on foot.
